02-04-2016: We took Manohar to Mazumdar Shaw Medical Center, Bangalore to consult Dr. Shobha for Thalassemia Treatment. Doctor's recommended to go for Bone Marrow Transplant. To go for Bone Marrow Transplant, he should have a donor. Donor can be from his family or External. To know if the donor is a match for bone marrow transplant, he and donor should go for HLA Typing Test individually. Once if there is a match, then the patient has to take undergo other checkups for Dermatology, Dental, Endocrine, Cardiac and many more to make sure that he is fit to go for this. Along with this, he has to be under medication for few months in the preparation phase. All the medication and preparation will be done only when there is donor match. Since he is already 17+ years, he has to undergo several tests to ensure that the Transplant is safe.

Approximate Expenses:

Donor Tests for HLA Typing, CBC, Echo, S. Ferrotin: Rs. 30,000

Preparation phase and medications: Rs. 4 - 5 Lakhs

Overall Costs for Bone Marrow Transplant: Rs. 20 - 25 Lakhs (if donor is within family)   Rs. 30 - 35 Lakhs (If donor is out of his family).

Narayana's CSR has some time-ups with Trusts/Foundations and they would do the review of the family situation and would approve financial assistance upto max 50% (varies for case by case), remaining amount has to be taken care by the Family.

As we are unable to help him for BMT operation supporting for monthly medicines currently. If any donor comes forward to support this boy then he will go for operation.

Name: Manohar

Age: 9yrs (by 2008)

Father’s name: Krishna Nayak

Mother’s Name: Devi Bayee

Occupation: coolie, earns Rs.60 per day

Address: Kamalaram Palli

Hindupur (M), Anantapur (dt)

History : Manohar’s parents spent around Rs.3L (sold their land) at Manipal Hospital to find his health problem at the age of 2 months. At last they found this is Thalassemia major. He needs blood transfusion for every month. Vani Vilas hospital is providing free blood from the past 8 yrs. Precaution: He has to take 2 vaccines before and after operation which costs around Rs.12k.

Pavan Pyda handed over Pneumo Coccular vaccine (cost Rs.1050) to Manohar which has to be taken before Splenactomy operation. Doctors gave this dosage to Manohar. He comes for blood transfusion in 3 rd week of Jan. Dr decides date of operation based on his condition on the same day.
