Unlock Banglore Program

01-04-2008: We participated in today conducted by TOI collaboration with Traffic Police between 8 AM to 11AM @ D'Souza circle.

We distributed Pamphlets and stickers with traffic rules to all commuters.

Pamphlet Questionnaire
Name:
Contact No:

Traffic Rules:
I wont cross Red signal
I wont drive over speed
I will follow Traffic Rules
etc..

My contribution to improve Bangalore Traffic conditions:

Commuters has to fill this form and drop at the given Petrol Bunks. TOI volunteers collect all these forms and pick up one person among these as a winner to give Prize. This program will continue up to this Sunday. There is no follow up after this program. They don’t have any idea to continue this program after some time.
So many people are caught by police who are violating traffic rules like driving without wearing helmet even though they are carrying it, crossing signal, 3 people sharing 1 bike etc.. They caught 5 people with in 10 min. We can imagine how many are violating traffic rules daily (app. 240 = 30 * 8hr per day). Is this problem with lack of awareness or negligence or don’t care about fine????
Sub Inspector’s Voice:
People are absconding by offering bribe to police either Rs. 50 or 100. They are indirectly encouraging bribe without paying fine as per rules.
Police earn Rs.5000 per month so they are also accepting this. Whether the problem is with Public or Police??SI has Black berry mobile through which he is able to file case against violators by making a note of his driving license number, personal details and fine collected from them. They don’t have proper system to track these cases based on license number so far. He is saying that we don’t have system like SSN in US which will gives all the information about a person. If they have these kind of system the commuters will be afraid to violate these rules. He said u can't put any rules to get the system better but we can achieve this when people should feel this and follow the rules only.
We have a contact of responsible Police and 2 more active volunteers to work for this cause in positive side. If u participate in this program u came to know about the people's behavior practically why they are violating rules and we can work on the things which makes the system commuters friendly.

U can contact Rajesh (Event manager) @ 9886609692 to participate on these weekends.

We are going to support to improve Bangalore Traffic in future. Please give your valuable suggestions by participate in this program on this weekend.
